Gengigel Mouthwash Review

Gengigel Hyaluronic Acid Mouthrinse 150ml

More Info

Gengigel Mouthrinse is a unique mouthwash designed to rapidly soothe, heal and protect. Many of us suffer from receding gums or painful oral conditions. If this is you, Gengigel Mouthrinse could provide not only welcome relief, but also promote rapid healing and restore gum health.

The majority of products in the oral health market focus on whitening our smiles. But if you’re in discomfort due to a painful gum condition, you may not feel like smiling at all.  The American Dental Association (ADA) estimates that gum disease is the most common preventable disease in the US – affecting up to 42% of us.

Gengigel mouthwash could restore your smile in a more lasting and meaningful way. It contains hyaluronic acid which strengthens gum tissue and promotes genuine healing. It boosts gum health, which is important, as gum disease can lead to more serious systemic conditions.

To get to grips with the potential benefits of Gengigel mouthwash, we explore the following questions:

  • How does Gengigel Mouthwash work?
  • Is Gengigel Mouthwash right for me?
  • How do I use Gengigel Mouthwash?
  • What else can I do to keep my gums healthy?

And then we answer some other Frequently Asked Questions.

How Does Gengigel Mouthwash Work?

The key ingredient in Gengigel Mouthwash is Hyaluronic Acid.

We all have hyaluronic acid in our bodies. It’s found in connective tissue and its job is to manage the healing process. Sometimes our bodies do not produce enough. This can be due to illness, smoking, pregnancy, hormonal changes or poor diet.

Hyaluronic acid is used by doctors to help regenerate tissue and relieve inflammation. It can heal wounds, help skin grafts connect and grow and be injected into joints to relieve arthritis.

Used orally, it is clinically proven to reduce soreness and inflammation, repair and even regenerate gum tissue, as well as repairing tooth enamel. This is great news if you have receding gums.

Gum disease can cause the tissue between the tooth and gum to separate. This creates pockets where bacteria rapidly multiply. Even if you have your teeth professionally cleaned, new bacteria can multiply before healing can take place.

Using a product containing Hyaluronic Acid accelerates healing and helps gum tissue reconnect to the tooth. This helps close the pockets quickly so you are less likely to suffer from further infection.

Hyaluronic acid also eases the pain associated with painful gum conditions such as ulcers. And Gengigel mouth rinse is formulated so that it ‘sticks’ to gums to give a lasting, protective coating.

How long does Gengigel Mouthwash take to work?

In terms of healing, Gengigel claims that results should be noticeable within 24 hours.

Is Gengigel Mouthwash Right for Me? The Pros and Cons

Pros

Gengigel Hyaluronic Acid Mouthrinse 150ml
  • Rapid relief from pain and discomfort
  • Promotes natural, rapid healing
  • Formulated to ‘stick’ to gum tissue to provide a lasting protective barrier
  • Protects from future infection
  • Safe for daily use

Cons

  • More expensive than regular mouthwash (see current price)
  • Contains alcohol which some people are sensitive to
  • Personally I dislike the taste which is bitter and lemony
  • Thick consistency may take a bit of getting used to

If you suffer from receding gums, mouth ulcers or any painful gum condition like gingivitis, you should definitely consider Gengigel Mouthwash. It is also good to help close the pockets that open up between teeth and gums as gingivitis worsens.

It is particularly effective if you have had recent dental surgery or have damaged oral tissue. For example you may have bitten your gums or tongue, or have newly fitted braces or dentures.

How do I use Gengigel Mouthwash?

  1. Use measuring cap to measure out 1 dose
  2. Swish around mouth for 1-2 minutes
  3. Spit the product out
  4. Repeat 3-4 times a day – use between meals to ease discomfort whilst eating and after brushing.
  5. Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after use
  6. Continue to use for 3-4 weeks until all symptoms have gone (or as directed by a dental professional)

How long do I need to use Gengigel Mouthrinse?

Gengigel recommends that you continue to use the product until symptoms have cleared up, but it is safe for long-term use. Also, continuous use can protect you from re-occurring conditions.

Are there any side effects of using Gengigel Mouthwash?

There are no known side effects of using Gengigel Mouthwash. However, if you are sensitive to mint, the flavouring used is CITROMINT which is a mix of citronella and peppermint. It also contains alcohol so if this is an issue for you, you should not use it.

Gengigel Mouthrinse vs Gel?

Which of these you use depends very much on personal preference.

The Gengigel Gel delivers a more concentrated dose to a specific area. If you have very painful tissue damage the gel is likely to provide more rapid relief. The gel can be slippery to apply with a finger so a cotton bud is recommended.

You may actually wish to use both products together if you suffer from badly receding gums and are prone to ulcers or other painful gum conditions.

Mouthrinse ingredients

What else can I do to keep my gums healthy?

If you are suffering from any painful gum condition, it is particularly important to brush teeth correctly twice a day for two minutes. Also, you especially need to floss to keep interdental spaces clean and as germ free as possible.

  • Brush correctly
  • Clean between your teeth every day using – consider a water flosser which is great for sensitive gums
  • Choose a good toothpaste
  • Use a soft bristled toothbrush
  • Consider using Gengigel Gel in addition to the mouthwash if you have receding gums or a very painful condition

  1. Hi:

This product sounded great for me until you mentioned the peppermint/ citrus taste. Both of these bother my mouth ulcers and lichen planus. That’s so disappointing! I have to use children’s fruit toothpaste instead of adult mint toothpaste. Too bad that the manufacturers didn’t think of this problem also. Back to Magic Mouthwash which helps Lichen Planus but not mouth ulcers/canker sores. I use 2% Liquid Lidocaine for those.

  2. I regard Gengigel Mouthwash as nothing less than a miracle product. I’ve been using a mouthwash prescribed by my doctor for 3 years, and the only thing it did for me was to make my mouth, which is always covered in apthous ulcers, feel clean and fresh, which was all well and good but did zero for the ever present pain.

My son bought me my first bottle of Gengigel – he’s very clued up on a healthy lifestyle – and the pain reduced somewhat within hours: within a week it was gone! No more ulcers!!

I told my doctor about it – he’d not heard of it before – and he looked it up in the BNF to find that it is indeed prescribable. However my pharmacist (I live rurally, so rely on one particular pharmacy) has been unable to source it yet. Result – two weeks without it and my tongue and upper and lower lips are again covered in really painful ulcers, to the point where even speaking is painful.

I’m just about to buy it online even though I can’t really afford to (I live in Scotland, where prescriptions are free, so it’s not been a problem before) because I’d rather go without something else than waste a day longer in severe pain and I am utterly confident that when I start to use Gengigel again, my ulcers will concede defeat and make themselves scarce. It really is that effective.

p.s. Gengigel is NOT expensive – I’m just broke this month!
